Sacrifice Day is also celebrated in Kathmandu in memory and honor of the martyrs who were martyred during the Madhes movement.

The Tarai-Madhesh National Council celebrated the 17th Sacrifice Day by lighting a lamp at Tinkune in Kathmandu.

Speakers in the program expressed their regret that even though the martyrs like Ramesh Mahato sacrificed for the liberation of Madhesh, this question was overshadowed due to the dishonesty of the political parties.

They were of the view that the fight for Madhesh liberation should be continued while institutionally protecting the achievements of the movement.

During the Madhesh movement that started on Magh 1, 2063, Ramesh Mahato was martyred on Magh 5 at Lahan in Siraha. After that, the Madhesh movement became more intense.

In memory of this day, Madheshis have been celebrating every 5th of Magh as a day of sacrifice. Today, along with Kathmandu, Sacrifice Day is also celebrated in various places of Madhesh.
