Total Cost for local elections: 37 billion

The Election Commission have said that the Election Commission alone needs a minimum of Rs 12 billion to hold 753 local level elections across the country. in the history of Nepal the upcoming local elections will be the most expensive election.

The estimated cost is for the Election Commission only. There is a history of spending twice as much as the commission for security purposes. According to commission officials, security operations could cost as much as Rs 25 billion.

The expenditure of Rs 11 to 12 billion is only for the Election Commission. And the cost of security operations under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Defense would be around Rs 25 billion. An official of the commission told to Nepal Manthan.

The 86 percent of the total expenditure of the commission goes to the district and local election offices.
